ZFM Older Persons Forum
“Go Turquoise for the Elderly” Campaign(15 May – 15 June) in support of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Date: 13 June 2025
Location: Upington, Northern Cape

This annual campaign is to highlight the Elderly challenges they are faced with on a daily basis in our ZFM District.

The aim of the ZFM Older Persons Forum is to identify and articulate the concerns and need of the older persons. Therefore, a Fun Walk was organized to create awareness to protect, respect and focus on the issues affecting the Elderly. We need to uphold their rights and ensure proper service delivery to the Older Persons. Furthermore, to enforce the Older Persons Act, Articel 13 of 2006, to minimize incidents of neglect and abuse against the Elderly.

This event was supported by the Executive Mayor of Dawid Kruiper Municipality, Mr. David Kazi and other government departments which include the Department of Social Development, Department of Justice and Department of Health, SAPD and Traffic Department. Other Stakeholders were Age-in-Action, Change through sport, Perfect Water, Pick ‘n Pay, Project Dreams, a youth initiative.
Abuse of the Elderly include physical, emotional, and financial abuse. We need to be watchful and assist the Elderly in any way possible to ensure that they live a happy and peaceful life. Our elderly deserve to live with dignity and respect.

Let’s be bold, age with attitude and stop Elderly Abuse.
